Historia
La SNES dio hogar a uno de los shooters de plataformas más recordados de los 90s, Sunset Riders. Mientras que la versión original de arcade le permitía galopar la frontera americana a cuatro jugadores simultáneamente, la SNES aun así, hizo un excelente trabajo con su modo de dos jugadores.
Estos cazadores de recompensas son tan rudos y conocidos por sus actos que ni siquiera necesitan apodos. Ellos simplemente son Steve, Bob, Billy y Cormano, el mexicano que viste de poncho y gran sombrero de color rosa.
Durante los 90s, Konami tuvo una clara tendencia a desarrollar juegos que rebosaban de gran brillo y color, juegos que tomaron gran parte de esa tendencia de exitosas series animadas de la época como es el caso de TMNT y Los Simpsons, los artistas de Konami fueron capaces de hacer volar su imaginación y demostraron que sus diseños podían competir con títulos basados en licencias de dibujos animados con al ventaja de poder relanzarlos evitando problemas de licencias.
Los diseñadores de este juego lograron romper la dinámica de la jugabilidad agregándole dos memorables etapas de bonus, después de las etapas dos y tres. Con una especie de mini-juego de disparos en primera persona donde se deben eliminar rápidamente a todos los vaqueros mientas van apareciendo, permitiéndote ganar unos cuantos dólares extra.
Sunset Riders puede mantener su frente en alto como uno de los mejores juegos de disparos de plataforma de los 16-bits. Brillante, colorido, excelentemente animado, una banda sonora y un despliegue sonoro memorable. Que tiene claro su lugar dentro de su género, combinando personajes con carisma y humor. Con una dificultad que puede variar de un simple paseo, hasta todo un desafió para profesionales.
Ítems de bonus
Hay tres tipos de ítems escondidos en la versión arcade. Todos los bonus que involucren a armas se pierden cuando el jugador es eliminado.
Disparo rápido: Representado por una insignia dorada de sheriff marcada con un revólver grande, este ítem permite a los jugadores mantener presionado el botón para disparar y acelera las balas ligeramente.
Disparo doble: Representado por una insignia plateada de sheriff marcada con dos revólveres, este icono le da al jugador una segunda arma. Los disparos de Steve y Billy se hacen en diferentes ángulos, mientras que Bob y Cormano disparan en la misma dirección con una ligera extensión de alcance.
Premio monetario: Una pila de monedas de oro ($2000) o un pavo asado ($500). En adición, una vez que las armas de los jugadores estén completamente adquiridas, cualquiera de los ítems anteriores que recoja le dará $1000 por cada uno.
Conclusión
Como conclusión, este juego está muy trabajado tanto gráficamente como en sonido, y es un gran clásico de los más jugados por mí junto a mis amigos en las máquinas recreativas. Y, aún teniendo el tiempo que tiene, es un gran juego al que os invito a que busquéis por Internet para probarlo junto a algún emulador de títulos arcade tipo MAME.

Juegazo como la copa de un pino y desarrollado por el director de los Contra originales (de hecho el estilo de ambos juegos es similar). La versión de megadrive flojeaba bastante en comparación con la de Super Nintendo, aunque la mejor con diferencia fue la de arcade que, sin censura y con unos gráficos algo superiores que las versiones de consola, te permitía jugar con 4 a la vez y repartir tiros en todas las direcciones. Gráficos coloridos y con un toque muy cartoon además de algún guiño a otros arcades de la época como el TMNT y pequeños detalles que solamente podías apreciar con según que personaje jugabas (salvar al indio jefe final en la sexta fase o el cambio de sombrero de Cormano en la quinta). En resumen, una muestra de lo que una Konami en su época de oro paría como si nada.
No dejé yo monedas de 5 duros ni nada en la maquinita… menos mal que con los emuladores no hay que meter moneda… Salomoria presidente ya!!!
